Fancy Touches
Now that we have a pretty good looking box, let's add a couple of little things to make it a beautiful box. The first thing that we will do is roll the box on its axis. We do this by holding the Shift key and then clicking and dragging with the Right mouse button. The final result should look like Figure 2.1.

Figure 2.1 - Rolled box
The next step is to add a reflection underneath the box. This is done by clicking Scene > Reflection (Figure 2.2).

Figure 2.2 - Basic reflection
Uh oh...
We have a bit of a problem. Because the box is rotated, the reflection has been squished into the box. We need to lower it. No problem. Hold down the Ctrl key and then click and drag using the Left mouse button to move the reflection plane down. The final result should look like Figure 2.3.

Figure 2.3 - Fixed reflection plane
All right, this box is starting to look really good.
But we still have a pile of white space above the box and as a result we can't see too much of the reflection. Our solution is to shift the Point of Focus down on the box. To do this, we first need to see where our point of focus is. So, click Scene > Point of Focus to see where it is, then hold down the Shift key and click and drag using the Left mouse button to move it down. The result should look like Figure 2.4.

Figure 2.4 - Shifted point of focus
Now we need to turn off the axes that mark the point of focus so, once again, we click Scene > Point of Focus and they disappear.

Figure 2.5 - Fancy looking box
Our box now looks really, really good. Let's move on and render it so that we can actually use it. |
