ActiveX
ActiveX is a set of technologies from Microsoft that enables interactive content for the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, the default ActiveX security settings in Internet Explorer can allow any webpage to secretly install these controls automatically.
- ActiveX components are also installed on your PC while browsing some web pages or installing some software.
- Max Secure maintains a database of all known Bad ActiveX controls that our Research team has determined to be harmful after thorough testing. This list is also updated frequently.
- Such components may or may not be harmful. Since many Spyware programs are launched using ActiveX, Spyware Detector prompts users to make a decision even when an active x which is not in our Spyware ActiveX Database tries to install. Bad ActiveX are automatically removed.
- In general, it is recommended that you block all ActiveX downloads, unless you know of a specific download that is necessary.
