Download Security Data
To begin, we will create a new workbook and download the price data you wish. The tool used to download your price data is called a Download Prices Dialog. A Download Prices Dialog is comprised of three pages. The “USA & Canada (Yahoo!) Page” is used for downloading price data from USA and Canada Stock Exchanges, using Yahoo! as data vendor. The “Europe (Stockwatch) Page” is used for downloading price data from European Stock Exchanges, using Stockwatch as data vendor. The “USA (Dreyfus) Page” is used as alternative data vendor for downloading stock price data from USA Stock Exchanges, using Dreyfus as data vendor.
To download price data of MSFT stock:
- Start Download Prices Dialog.
- Select “USA & Canada (Yahoo!) Page”.
- Type MSFT in the Ticker Symbol box.
- Select the Periodicity for the security data as Daily.
- Select Date range as Fixed. (See How to use Date range option for more information on this subject.)
In the Start Date box, enter how far back you want to download data. For our tour, enter "Apr/20/2000." (Remember, if you need help completing the dialogs, just click the Help button.). The Ending date controls how current the data will be. For our tour, we leave default date, which displays current date. For our tour, enter “Jul/21/2000.
- Select Fields to output. For our tour, all fields are selected.
- Select Data Direction as From top to bottom. Data Direction option controls where Start/End date will be.
In the Beginning of data box enter the reference for the upper-left cell of output table. For our tour, left the default value “A1”.
- Click Get Historical Data button. (Be sure to have Internet connection).
The Result will be:
In the cell “A1” will be:
MSFT - Daily - Fixed - apr 20 2000 : jul 27 2000 - From top to bottom - Yahoo Date:jul 27 2000 18:08:48
In the cells “A2:F69” will be the price data.
To download price data of DAIMLER CHRYSLER AG NA O.N stock:
- Start Download Prices Dialog.
- Select “Europe (Stockwatch) Page”.
- Type 710000 in the WPKN box.
- Choose Stock Exchange as Frankfurt/FWB.
- Select the Periodicity for the security data as Daily.
- Select Fields to output. For our tour, all fields are selected.
- Select Data Direction as From top to bottom. Data Direction option controls where Start/End date will be.
- In the Beginning of data box enter the reference for the upper-left cell of output table. For our tour, left the default value “A1”.
- Click Get Historical Data button. (Be sure to have Internet connection).
The Result will be:
In the cell “A1” will be:
710000 - Frankfurt/FWB - Floating - From top to bottom - Daily - Europe Date: <date of download>
In the cells “A2:G301” will be the price data. |
