Itunes Button Bar

Itunes Button Bar

Function buttons are shown in "compact" form and may be expanded onto a separate tool bar directly beneath, with captions added (MainMenu > View > Top Buttons > Expanded, or <Alt+J>).

Link-to-tags Link-to-tags: When enabled, changes made to tag data in the iTunes library file are automatically propagated into corresponding file tags. When disabled, only the library file itself is updated*. Library Clinic supports many tag fields that are not supported in iTunes itself. Columns for these fields can only be made visible (and thus editable) when this option is enabled.

When not linking to tags, a choice can be made in Preferences' Behavior page whether columns that require tag access in order to populate them will be filled or not (choosing not to do this will increase the library load speed). If Preference setting "Do fast library loads when not linking to tags" is enabled, the following columns are not populated via file or tag access (but may still acquire data from the library, if present): File Size, Bit Rate, Sample Rate, Stereo/Mono Mode, Has Video, Playtime, Picture, Show, Season Number, Episode ID, and Episode Number. The Picture column can be set to load under all circumstances, however, by enabling option "Always get picture count."

*Exceptions: Changes made to tag fields Sort Name, Sort Artist, Sort Album, Sort Album Artist, and Sort Composer in MP3s, as well as changes made to fields Show, Season Number, Episode ID, and Episode Number in video files, are always propagated into a file's tag, since iTunes will always seek to acquire this information from physical file tags rather than from the library. Note also that iTunes will not pick up the Sort Show field from a backup file, and that it does not exist in file tags.

Catch up library file with tag changes Catch up library file with tag changes: Compares tag and library data and replaces library data with tag data where they differ (Ctrl+Alt+5). The function will not remove library data, and will only change or add data where it differs.

Save or Restore iTunes archive Save or Restore iTunes archive: Executes the archive editor. Saves a copy of an iTunes library, or installs one back again into iTunes (Shif+F8).

Edit iTunes playlists Edit iTunes playlists: Executes the iTunes Playlist Editor (Ctrl+Alt+7).

Create new library Create new library: Creates a new, empty iTunes library file and executes the Add Files browse dialog for the addition of files (Shift+F1). New libraries created by this function can either include or exclude a standard, empty set of iTunes playlists (movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc.). See "Add standard playlist categories to new library files" in Preferences' on the Behavior page.

Add files to library Add files to library: Opens a browse dialog for finding one or more files to add to the current library file. To remove files, highlight rows for removal (click or drag the mouse on the row number column), then left-click the mouse on the Editor and choose "Remove > Selected files" from the popup menu (or use Shift+F4).

Open XML file Open XML file: Executes a browse dialog for finding and opening an iTunes XML library file. In iTunes Mode, the Browse button also performs this function (Shift+F3).

Save XML file Save XML file: Saves changes made to the current file (Shift+F5).

Save XML file as Save XML file as: Saves the current library file as another XML file with a different name (Shift+F6).

Open iTunes library file Open iTunes library file: Opens the iTunes XML libary file, "iTunes Music Library.xml" (Shift+F2).

Save and Install file as iTunes library Save and Install file as iTunes library (Shift+F7): Installs the current file as the active iTunes XML libary file ("iTunes Music Library.xml"). If a compressed library file exists ("iTunes Library.itl") and it is not already zero-length, backup copies of both existing files are made first and then stored in the "Backups Folder" specified in Preferences (by default, the subfolder "Backups" in the install folder). A zero-length ITL file is installed in place of the original ITL file. This induces iTunes to load from the replacement XML file when it next runs. You can suppress the creation of backups during this process, if desired, by holding the Control Key depressed while executing. A backup can be selected for restoration, if needed, by using the function at "Main Menu > iTunes > Restore iTunes backup." Visit "Backup file maintenance" on this menu to perform maintenance activities related to accumulated backup files.

File Presence Indicators File Presence Indicators: Indicator "ITL" is dark in color when an iTunes ITL library file ("iTunes Library.itl") is found to be present in the iTunes folder (and file length is greater than 0). Indicator "XML" is dark in color when an iTunes XML library file ("iTunes Music Library.xml") is found present. These Indicators appear faint when their respective files are not found.

File-changed indicator File-changed indicator: Visible whenever one or more changes have been logged for the current XML file.

Tag Mode Tags Mode - Editor is being used as tag editor.
