Single-Cell Popup Menu

Accessed by selecting and right-clicking the mouse on editable cell text anywhere in the Editor, functions on this menu operate on one tag field at a time. The lower, or "Tool," section shown below can be made to reside on the main level as shown, or on a submenu (see option "Place Single-Cell Popup tools on ..." in Preferences).

Single-Cell Popup Menu

Library Clinic uses Windows' clipboard for all single-field Cut, Copy, and Paste operations. When performing these functions on tag fields that contain multiple data fields, like Comments, User Text, MusicMatch Bio, Lyrics, URL, Picture, and Object columns, an internal clipboard is used that can include data from supporting subfields, such as "description," "language," etc. When a Cut or Copy is performed on one of these columns, the program defaults to using its own internal clipboard. Subsequent Paste operations will use this data when pasting into the same or similar column from which the data came originally. If the internal clipboard's data came from an unlike column, or it is empty, Windows clipboard text is used instead. Although there is rarely a need, Library Clinic's internal clipboard can be manually cleared by executing a <Ctrl+C> (a "copy" shortcut sequence) while inside most single-field data cells, including empty cells. You can clear Windows' clipboard by executing a <Ctrl+K>, or clear both by executing <Ctrl+D>. You must be inside a data cell for these commands to be recognized.

Cut <Ctrl + X>: Moves selected text or tag field contents into the Clipboard. Besides operating on ordinary text, a cut can also be performed on Pictures or Encapsulated Objects. Even though there is no selectable text in these types of data cells, it works the same way. To cut Pictures or Objects, right-click the mouse on a column cell containing a number (which indicates their presence in the tag), then choose "Cut" from the popup menu to move the images or objects from the tag into the internal Clipboard.

Copy <Ctrl + C>: Copies selected text or tag field contents into the Clipboard. As with the "Cut" command, in addition to copying ordinary text a copy can be made of Pictures or Encapsulated Objects, even though there is no selectable text in these types of data cells. To copy a Picture or Object, right-click the mouse on a cell containing a number (which indicates their presence in a tag), then choose "Copy" from the popup menu to copy all images or objects in the tag to the internal Clipboard.

Paste <Ctrl + V>: Paste text, multi-field tag frames, pictures, or objects from the Clipboard into a tag. If all text in a cell is selected at the time of the paste, data may be pasted from either the internal clipboard or from Window's clipboard, depending upon the cell type and the current contents of the internal clipboard (see above).

Delete (Del): Remove contents of tag field from tag. When operating on fields in which multiple instances of a single tag field type can exist, like Comments, UserText, Pictures, etc., "Delete" removes only the first instance found in the tag. If a second instance of the same type is present, it takes the place of the first in the Editor's data view. In the Lyrics column, the first delete will remove only Unsynchronized Lyrics, while a second will remove the Synchronized Lyrics, if present. To remove ALL instances of multi-instance tag frames at one time, select the desired rows (highlight them) and use the "Delete" function on the Multi-Tag Popup Menu (see below).

Capitalize: Capitalize all words in selected text. The capitalization of contractions is handled in accordance with settings on the Options Panel. Capitalization of letters following specific symbols is performed in accordance with the Default Capitalization Options settings in the Capitalization Editor.

Capitalize±: Capitalize as above, then un-capitalize all active words listed in the Anti-Capitalization Editor (if enabled), and capitalize exactly all active words listed in the Exact-Capitalization Editor (if enabled).

All Upper: Convert all text to upper case in selected text.

All Lower: Convert all text to lower case in selected text.

Replace Illegals: Replace or remove illegal filename characters in selected text, as specified on the Illegal Character Replacement Editor.

Space to '_': Replace each space character with an underbar ("_") in selected text.

'_' to Space: Replace each underbar character ("_") with a space character in selected text.

'and' to '&': Replace each word "and" with an ampersand character ("&") in selected text.

'&' to 'and': Replace each ampersand character ("&") with the word "and" in selected text.

'&' to 'and the': Replace each ampersand character ("&") with the words "and the" in selected text.

'X to 'x: Convert each letter after a single quote to a lower case character, in selected text.

aB to a B: Add a space between capitalized words that have no space between them. Also adds a space before left parenthesis and left brackets where none are present.

" to ': Convert double quotes to a single quotes in selected text.

'/' to ?: Convert all backslash characters to another character, or characters, as specified by the Backslash Replacement setting on the "General 2" page in Preferences

'-' to Separator: Replace hyphens with the active Separator. Hyphens with a leading space or trailing space or both are treated as a single character by this function.

2 to 1 Space: Replace multiple, consecutive space characters with a single space character.

1 to 0 Space: Remove all space characters.

Add 'The ': Add the word "The" (followed by a space), at the beginning of text in a selected cell.

Auto Edit: The Editor has several built-in auto-editing functions that, when enabled, are automatically applied whenever text in a tag field is manually edited.
