Top Toolbar B
From left to right:
Create new library: Creates a new, empty iTunes library file and executes the Add Files browse dialog to facilitate the addition of files to it (Shift+F1).
Add files to library: Opens a browse dialog for finding one or more files to add to the current library file. Remove files by highlighting rows you want to remove, left-clicking the mouse on the Editor, and choosing "Remove > Selected files" from the popup menu (Shift+F4).
Open library file: Executes a browse dialog for finding and opening any iTunes XML library file. In iTunes Mode the Browse button also performs this function (Shift+F2).
Save library file: Saves changes made to the current file (Shift+F5).
Save library file as: Saves the current library file as an XML library file with a different name (Shift+F6).
- Open iTunes library file: Opens the iTunes XML libary file "iTunes Music Library.xml" (Shif+F3).
Save as iTunes library file (Shift+F7): Installs the current file as the new iTunes XML libary file, "iTunes Music Library.xml." If the iTune's compressed library file exists ("iTunes Library.itl"), and it is not zero-length, backup copies of both these files are made first and stored in subfolder "Backups" in the install folder . A zero-length ITL file is then installed in place of the original ITL file. This will induce iTunes to load from the replacement XML file when next it runs. You can suppress the creation of backups during this process, if desired, by holding the Control Key depressed while executing. A backup can be selected for restoration by using the function at "Main Menu > iTunes > Restore iTunes backup." Visit "Backup file maintenance" to perform maintenance activities on accumulated backup files.
File Presence Indicators: Indicator "ITL" is green when an iTunes ITL library file ("iTunes Library.itl") is found to be present in the iTunes folder (and file length is greater than 0). Indicator "XML" is turned green when an iTunes XML library file ("iTunes Music Library.xml") is found present.
File-changed indicator: Visible whenever one or more changes have been logged for the current library file.
: Selects viewing mode, iTunes or Tags. In iTunes Mode, files in iTunes' XML library file (or other iTunes-formatted XML file) are listed. In Tags Mode, physical file tags are shown.
- Refresh
or Stop : The Refresh button reloads the current folders or file and refreshes all views and lists. While the program is counting files, loading files, and performing multi-file edit operations the icon changes to a "stop sign," which can be pressed to terminate the operation. Most types of multi-file operations can be either paused or canceled by clicking anywhere on the surface of the Editor or the file list on the Rename Page while an operation is in progress. Response times to cancellation clicks vary widely depending upon the type of operation being performed, the type of tag being operated upon, and the type of media upon which files are stored.
- Folder Scanning enable/disable
or : Click to enable or disable subfolder scanning when loading tags. When disabled, only files in the current folder are loaded into the Editor for viewing and editing. When enabled, files in the current folder plus all files in subfolders are loaded. If "Auto-refresh after scanning enabled/disabled" is checked in the Behavior section of Preferences, the view is automatically refreshed when this setting is changed, otherwise it is updated when a move to another folder is made, or the view is manually refreshed (see Refresh Button above).
- Launch
or Close iTunes: Start application iTunes, or close it if running (<Alt+8> and <Alt+9>, respectively).
- Toolbar Toggle Pad
: Top horizontal button collectively toggles the visibility of the four Editor toolbars (Tag Type, Separator, Speedbutton, and the PasteDown Panel/Thumbnail Image Panel) between "all off" and the last configuration in which a toolbar was visible. The four numbered buttons beneath the horizontal bar toggle each of the four toolbars on or off separately.
