Discover Network Automatically

To discover a TCP/IP network automatically,

  • Click on the New button of the File toolbar
    or
  • Use the menu File, New

Discover

  • Map information: Title, Description and Author are text values that you can use to describe the network. They are also used as titles on printed documents (Maps and Lists).
  • Discovery Type:
    • Single address: only one Node is discovered. It can also be used after a discovery to add a new node to the map.
    • Range: Start and End address must be entered. Since no subnet mask is used, take care not to include the network or broadcast addresses, or to delete them after the discovery.
    • Subnet: will scan the range of addresses in the Network, excluding the network and broadcast addresses. The Subnet mask must be entered.
    • You will get some help entering the values with the '>' button next to the addresses edit fields. By pressing this button, you receive a selection of addresses based on you local configuration, and default subnet masks.
  • Settings: this will bring up the Discovery Options dialog. Values that are set here are based on the values you have previously defined in the Discovery Options dialog. If you change any of these values from here, this will be only for the current discovery session.
