File Encrypter & Decrypter

This module enables you to encrypt files to prevent others from accessing their contents without your permission. The files are encrypted with a password that you choose, which is used like a key to lock and unlock your data. The contents of encrypted files are "scrambled" and they cannot be opened by anyone who does not have your password. When you want to access the data you just need to enter your password to decrypt the files – then you can use them again normally. The program encrypts files using the Blowfish algorithm, which is extremely secure if you use a good password (longer passwords are more secure). In the screenshot below you see the main dialog of the File Encrypter & Decrypter. To learn how to work with the File Encrypter & Decrypter go on to the Procedure page.

Procedure

1: Start the program

Click on the File Encrypter & Decrypter entry in the main menu of Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6.

2: Select the Function

Encrypt a file

If you would like to encrypt a file click on the radio button next to the file encryption symbol.

Decrypt a file

Click on the file decryption radio button to decrypt a file.

3: Start the selected Function

Click on the appropriate button to proceed.

Encrypt Files

To encrypt files the following steps have to be taken:

1. First choose the file you want to encrypt. You may either use the browse button to set the path to your file or use Drag&Drop to drag a file into the input field from Windows® Explorer.
2. Now you have to choose a password. The password must be between 4 and 16 characters long. Note: The password is case case-sensitive. There is NO way to decrypt the file without the password, so please make a note of it in a safe place!
3. Now decide if you would like to deletet the file by by checking or unchecking the Delete original file after successful encryption option checkbox.
4. Afterwards press the Next > button to start the encryption procedure. Note: Depending on the file size this process may take some time - please be patient.

Decrypt Files

To decrypt a file:

1. First choose the file you want to decrypt (you can only decrypt files that have been encrypted with this program). You may either use the browse button to set the path to your file or use Drag&Drop to drag a file into the input field from Windows® Explorer.
2. Next you must enter the same password that you used to encrypt it. Note: The password is case-sensitive.
3. Afterwards use the Next > button to start the decryption process. Note: Depending on the file size this may take some time - please be patient.
