Local Password Reset
A local password reset is how we refer to resetting passwords when you have direct access to the machine hosting the SafeHouse volume needing to be reset. By direct access, we mean that you are able to either physically walk up to the machine and sit down at the keyboard, or, you can accomplish the same thing using some kind of remote desktop software.

Steps to Perform a Local Reset
Follow these steps to perform a local password reset:
- Launch the password reset dialog and select the Local Reset tab.
- Enter your administrator credentials using a password or smartcard.
- Choose a new volume password.
- Click the OK button.
Launch the Password Reset Dialog
The first step toward performing a local password reset is to launch the password reset dialog shown below.
The left tab on this dialog identifies the administrator contact and group association for the subject SafeHouse volume. This information is especially important if you have multiple SafeHouse branding groups and you need to know which group this specific volume belongs too.
This dialog may be launched from either of two locations. Use whichever method is most convenient.

Launch from:
- View or Change Volume Properties Dialog
- Change Volume Password Dialog
View or Change Volume Properties Dialog
To launch the password reset dialog from the View or Change Volume Properties dialog, select this button from the SafeHouse system tray utility Tools tab, and then in the resulting dialog, select the volume file which needs to have its password reset and click the Reset Password button.

NOTE: If the Reset Password button is disabled, that means that the selected SafeHouse volume was not created with the password reset feature enabled. Once a volume is created, its ability to support password resets cannot be changed. As such, it is important to plan ahead when creating new volumes if this feature is important to you.
Change Volume Password Dialog
To launch the password reset dialog from the Change Password dialog, select this button from the SafeHouse system tray utility Tools tab, and then in the resulting dialog, select the volume needing to have its password reset.

Finally, click on the icon in window caption bar to display the popup system menu and select the Reset Password menu item.
