Remote Reset Instructions
Performing a remote password reset is relatively easy. All steps are performed using the Password Reset dialog.

Step-by-Step Instructions
The broad steps for remotely resetting a password are described below. Please click on the individual steps for additional instructions.
- Launch the password reset dialog and select the Remote Reset tab.
- Click the Request Password Reset button.
- Fill out the Password Reset Request Form and click Send.
- Wait for the administrator to approve the request.
- Once approved, choose a new volume password and click OK.
Submit the Password Reset Request Form
You initiate a remote password reset request by filling out and submitting this form. This form is displayed using the Request Password Reset button on the Remote Reset tab. When the Send button is clicked, SafeHouse will directly contact the SafeHouseAdmin.com website using a secure connection and submit your request. Internet access is required to complete this step.
Provided there aren't any errors during submission, the status icon on the Remote Reset tab will change from Ready to Pending. It will remain in this state until your administrator services the request, the request times out or your cancel the request.
It is not necessary to stop work and wait for your administrator to respond. The request will remain active as long as you do not log out of Windows or turn off your PC. You can even close this dialog, terminate SafeHouse, and return to it later; as long as you do not log out of Windows.

- Your Contact Information
Enter your contact information. The first three fields are required. The comment field is optional. The purpose of these fields is to give your administrator as much information as possible so that they can make an intelligent decision as to whether or not to approve this request.
- Administrator Contact
This field is optional. If filled in with a valid email address, when the request is received at the SafeHouseAdmin.com website, an email notification will be sent to the referenced address. Your administrator will let you know if they require this form to be forwarded directly to them.
Wait for Administrator Approval
Once a remote reset request is successfully submitted to the SafeHouseAdmin.com website, the status icon on the Remote Reset tab will change from Ready to Pending as can be seen in the screen shot below.
The SafeHouse software will query the SafeHouseAdmin.com website once per minute to see if the request has been handled by your administrator. The status icon will change automatically once a new request state is sensed.

No Waiting Required
- You are not required to sit idle with this dialog showing while waiting for an administrator to respond to your request.
- A pending request will remain active as long as you do not log out of Windows or turn off your PC.
- It is perfectly permissible to close this Password Reset dialog, do some other work, and then re-display this dialog at a later time to check on the status.
- As a security precaution, logging out of Windows causes your PC to immediately forget about any outstanding requests.
Choose New Password
The Password Reset dialog will query the SafeHouseAdmin.com website once per minute to see if the administrator has taken any action on the request. If so, the icon in the middle of the tab will change to reflect the new status for the request.
In the case where the administrator has approved the request, the icon will change to a green checkmark as shown below.
- Approved Requests
Once your request is approved, choose your new password and click the OK button.

- Saving Volume Passwords to Smartcards
If you have enabled the use of smartcards to store your volume passwords, the software will automatically attempt to update your smartcard with the newly-chosen password at the completion of this step.
- Unapproved Requests
There may be times when administrators choose not to approve specific requests, requests time out due to lack of administrator attention or requests simply cannot be completed due to Internet connectivity problems. In all of these cases, the icon and nearby text will indicate the current state or completion status of the request.
- Cancelling Requests
Your can cancel an incomplete request at any time, including after it has been approved by an administrator; but prior to choosing a new password.
