Creating a site: workflow overview
This lesson explains how to set up a web site. The most common approach to creating a website with Web Page Maker is to create and edit pages on your local disk, and then upload those pages to a remote web server for viewing on the web.
There are three ways to create a web site. You can use Web Page Maker's professional templates or start from scratch by dragging and dropping images, music and video.. into a layout. You can also import a web site from an existing web site or from a folder on your computer.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to start from scratch by creating a brand-new web site.
To create a web site:
- Create pages, add content, set their page properties
- Link pages together
- Preview and publish your site (see Previewing and Publishing)
Creating a site using template
Templates are customizable, pre-designed web sites that contain multiple web pages. Web Page Maker includes high quality templates for a wide variety of purposes.
To create a web site using template:
- Select New from Template from the File menu.

- Select a template from the list of the available templates.

- Click OK.
Editing a Template Page
Once you've created a site using one of Web Page Maker's templates, you will want to customize it with contents that are appropriate to your own web site.
- Modifying Text
Double click on a text box and then the Text Editor Window appears. Type or paste your own text into the text editor, you can click the buttons on the text editor to format your text.
- Changing Images
You may wish to replace the images that are included in your template page with images of your own. To replace an image, double click on the image and then click Browse to locate an image from your computer's hard drive.
- Deleting Un-needed Page Elements
To remove page elements you don't need, highlight them and select Delete from the Edit menu or use the Delete key on your keyboard.
- Rearranging Page Elements
You can rearrange the elements on your template page. Click on the element you would like to move, and drag it to a new location on the page.
- Modifying Links
To replace links with your own links, click on the element containing the link and then click Hyperlink button on the toolbar.
Importing existing html documents
Importing an html page is easy way of transferring an html page hosted on a web server to your local hard drive. In Web Page Maker, you can open an existing web page document, even if it wasn't created in Web Page Maker. You can open the html document and use Web Page Maker to edit it in a wysiwyg manner.
To import an existing html document:
- Select Import... > HTML Page from the File menu. The Import HTML Page dialog box appears.

- Navigate to and select the html file you want to open on your local hard drive. Or, click the "From Remote site" option and then type URL in the space provided and click OK.

- You may see an Import Progress dialog box popup as Web Page Maker downloads the site. This is an indicator that the download is working. Please be aware that importing very large sites can take some time to complete.

After the download has finished the importation process is complete. Now you can edit it with Web Page Maker as usual.
